DGFT e-commerce exports handbook for MSMEs
The Indian government has launched a comprehensive "E-Commerce Exports Handbook for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)" to help these small businesses expand their exports through e-commerce platforms. The handbook, prepared by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), aims to provide MSMEs with valuable insights and strategies for promoting their exports through e-commerce. It serves as a one-stop repository of information, offering guidance on how to effectively venture into global markets.
The Honorable Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, highlighted the global demand for India's traditional products, such as millets, especially in regions with a significant Indian diaspora. The goal is to bridge the gap between Indian MSMEs, craftsmen, farmers, and food processors, and global markets by leveraging e-commerce platforms. In addition, the government has extended the Scheme for Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) benefits to courier and postal exports. This move aims to facilitate MSMEs in capitalizing on government schemes and fostering e-commerce exports, contributing to the overall target of achieving USD 1 trillion in merchandise exports by 2030.
To enhance accessibility, the comprehensive handbook will be translated into all official languages across India. This initiative aims to benefit consumers, entrepreneurs, farmers, and women entrepreneurs who are looking to make significant contributions to trade and commerce. To further support new and first-time exporters, especially through the e-commerce route, the DGFT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shiprocket. This collaboration aims to conduct capacity building and handholding sessions as part of the E-Commerce outreach under the DGFT Regional Authorities' Districts as Export Hubs Initiative. The partnership reflects the DGFT's broader collaboration with various e-commerce platforms and enablers to provide training sessions in districts, fostering e-commerce exports.
