Utilizing the ZED Certification Program to Achieve Sustainability

The MSME Sustainable, ZED Certification Scheme, implemented under the MSME Champions Scheme, aims to enhance the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in foreign markets by promoting environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices.

Scheme Overview:

Units with Udyam registration can apply for subsidy and certification.

Subsidies are offered based on the level of certification: 80% for micro, 60% for small, and 50% for medium enterprises.

Financial Support:

Financial assistance for MSMEs securing ZED certification has exceeded Rs 100 crore. MSMEs under this scheme will be given Rs 105.20 crore.  The assistance is in the form of a subsidy on the certification cost.

Additionally, the programme offers up to Rs 2 lakh for guidance and handholding needed to advance to the next certification level. A support package of Rs 3 lakh is available for technological updates.

MSME Registration and Certification Statistics:

Since its launch in April 2022, 1.60 lakh MSMEs have registered. Out of these, 78,355 MSMEs have been ZED certified. Certification levels:  77,743 bronze, 308 silver, and 304 gold.

Certification Cost:

MSMEs are charged Rs 10,000 for bronze, Rs 40,000 for silver, and Rs 90,000 for gold certification.

Certification is valid for three years, and re-application is required.

Applicability:

The scheme is currently applicable for manufacturing MSMEs only.

Certification Parameters:

Bronze certification has five parameters, including workplace safety and quality management. Silver certification has 14 parameters, and gold certification has 20 parameters, covering areas such as HR management, energy management, and supply chain management.
