Post Pandemic, an Opportunity to Promote India’s Medicine Covered by Ayurveda Globally: Prahlad Patel
New Delhi: With the purpose of positioning India as the wellness and Ayurveda hub across the globe, that is a plan by the Tourism Ministry, Prahlad Patel is urging to list all such centres in a systematic manner so that they can be widely publicised.
Prahlad Patel said: “Post Covid, we have an opportunity to promote Yoga, Ayurveda.. the board members have also recommended that we should have separate hubs for Ayurveda and Allopathy, so that tourists are clear about their choices."
The matter was discussed in the meeting of the National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board which was held on Monday.
“Post Covid, we have an opportunity to promote Yoga, Ayurveda.. the board members have also recommended that we should have separate hubs for Ayurveda and Allopathy, so that tourists are clear about their choices," he expressed.
“We have said that we should also have an authentic list of all our wellness centres and Ayush Hospitals so that we can properly publicise them. This will also help foreign tourists,” he added.
As per his statement, India has 34 hospitals which are accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and 578 under the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).
“The number of hospitals under the international standards of JIC has to increase so that tourists have more hospitals to choose from. Under Ayushman Bharat, a lot of hospitals have been upgraded. Now they will be incorporated into NABH and their level is elevated to JIC levels, so that people coming to India for medical tourism have more options. Infact, even visas will be granted based on recommendations from these centres and hospitals,” he added.
The National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board was founded to identify the obstacles to the development of medical tourism, and to provide a dedicated institutional framework for the promotion of medical tourism, wellness tourism and yoga, Ayurveda tourism and any other format of Indian system of medicine covered by Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH).
As estimated, the global medical tourism market is worth $ 46.6 billion in 2021, as per the Services Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Commerce. The largest share belongs to Asia-Pacific region which has been accounted around 40% of the global market.
