Union Minister Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje assume charge of the Ministry of MSME

Union Minister Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi has taken over the reins of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from Shri Narayan Rane, bringing with him the experience of having served as the Chief Minister of Bihar from 2014 to 2015.

Alongside him, Ms. Shobha Karandlaje has been appointed as the Minister of State in the same ministry. Ms. Karandlaje's previous roles include serving as the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, as well as the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries.

Addressing the media after taking charge Union Minister Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi thanked Hon'ble Prime Minister for including him in the vision 2047 and making him a part of the journey of Atmanirbhar Bharat that includes MSMEs as a focal point.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, former Chief Minister of Bihar, has been appointed as the new MSME Minister in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Known as the Dalit face of NDA, the 79-year-old Manjhi is also the leader of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM). He previously served as the Bihar CM for a brief period of 10 months from 2014 to 2015. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Manjhi secured victory in the Gaya seat in Bihar by a margin of 101,812 votes against Kumar Sarvjeet from Rashtriya Janata Dal.

After pledging support to the NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, following a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this year, Manjhi will take over as the MSME Minister, replacing Narayan Rane who assumed the role in July 2021 during the first major cabinet reshuffle in PM Modi's second term. The MSME Ministry portfolio was previously held by Nitin Gadkari.

Shobha Karandlaje, who was the Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare in Modi's government, has been appointed as the new Minister of State (Mos) in both the Ministry of MSME and the Ministry of Labour and Employment. In the second term of Modi's government, the MoS in the MSME Ministry was Bhanu Pratap Verma, who assumed office alongside Rane in July 2021. Karandlaje had previously been a member of various committees in the 17th Lok Sabha, including the Standing Committee on Energy, Committee on Empowerment of Women, and the Consultative Committee under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
