A significant step by JKRLM, towards empowering rural entrepreneurs

Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) has come to an industry agreement towards fostering rural entrepreneurship and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir. The program  aims to bridge the gap between rural enterprises and the industry, providing rural entrepreneurs, especially women, with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in the competitive market, said Ms Indu Kanwal MD,JKRLM

The Industry Led Mentorship Program, is designed to offer mentorship, training, and market linkages to the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) involved in the tourism and food processing sectors. These sectors have been identified as having high potential for growth and job creation in rural areas. By focusing on these areas, the program aims to enhance the competitiveness of rural enterprises and contribute to the economic development of the region.

The program's emphasis on capacity building, branding, and market linkages is crucial for rural entrepreneurs who often lack the necessary resources and knowledge to scale up their businesses.

Moreover, the initiative to establish a state-level aggregator for SHGs will facilitate better coordination and resource sharing among the groups, potentially leading to more efficient production and marketing of their products. This could also help in creating a unified brand identity for the products from Jammu and Kashmir, which could further enhance their marketability.

The mention of the dairy industry and other focus areas such as mushrooms, spices, and bakery items indicates a comprehensive approach to rural development that leverages the region's unique resources and traditional skills. By diversifying the product range and exploring value-added products, it will create sustainable livelihoods and open up new avenues for income generation for rural communities, adds Ms Indu.

Overall, the initiative by Ms Indu Kanwal, MD JKRLM is a promising step towards empowering rural entrepreneurs and unlocking the economic potential of Jammu and Kashmir's rural areas. With the right support and guidance, these entrepreneurs can play a pivotal role in driving the region's economic growth and job creation, says Shahid Iqbal, Secretary RDD & PR.
